I received a request today from somebody who would like to make his own Alphorn. Does anybody have plans with dimensions and instructions of how to build your own Alphorn?

Hi everyone – I’m hoping to make my own alphorn as well. I’m making cornetts at the moment so have some carving skills and I also have access to a lathe. Are there any plans available? I would really like to make a Büchel as my Principal study is Baroque trumpet.

There is a book ‘Das Alphorn” by Brigitte Bachmann-Geiser which explains everything about the Alphorn (it is in German but with many pictures and music). In the front pocket there are sheet music of old Alphorn and Buechel melodies, and in the back pocket there are plans and dimensions about an Alphorn and a Buechel, which should help your case to make your own Alphorn.
